Invitation to a Threesome – Narcissist Triangulation

Narcissist Triangulation Tricks and Signals

I took Tina up to the Hexagon to shoot some pool. As had become our custom, she was drinking whiskey and I had a Red Bull. We were having a fine time. Pool was one of our main forms of recreation and I pretty much always enjoyed Tina’s company.

After we’d shot a couple games, Tina took notice of a couple who’d recently entered the bar. They looked to be in an age group somewhere between Tina’s and mine. The man had red hair and a substantial, but neatly trimmed beard. The woman, a brunette was slightly on the heavy side with a plain face. They seemed entirely unremarkable to me. They sat and conversed between themselves, not far from our pool table.

“We should ask them if they want to shoot a game with us,” Tina suggested, after a while.

I glanced at them again. They seemed deep in conversation. I figured if they’d come to shoot pool, they’d be heading for an open table and said as much to Tina. “If they come over to play, I’ll ask them to join us,” I said.

Tina didn’t seem satisfied with that answer, but she didn’t press the point or approach them, herself. We carried on in our own bubble, shooting another game, ordering another round of drinks, stepping out side for an occasional cigarette. It was a pretty typical night for us. We would usually go out to shoot pool at least once a week.

She mentioned interest in shooting pool with the other couple once more, but I still wasn’t inclined to bother them unless they looked like they were going to shoot a game, themselves.

After coming inside from one of our cigarette breaks on the patio, Tina went off to use the restroom while I got our drinks replenished at the bar. Not for the first time, Tina was away to the restroom for an extended period of time. After 15 minutes or so, I noticed her outside the restroom from across the bar. She was talking animatedly with the brunette woman who’d been sitting near us. I watched for a while, waiting on Tina to come and resume our game. Then, the red-haired man approached and the three of them chatted for a minute.

I was growing bored and it looked like the party had moved over there, so I decided to wander over and introduce myself. As soon as I stood up, the man made an abrupt exit from the bar. I took a couple steps toward Tina and the brunette, but the brunette turned to walk away and Tina started back towards me. I sat back down.

“I just got invited to a threesome,” Tina enthused as she sat back at the little side table with me.

“Oh, really?”

“Yes. I was talking to that girl, you know the one I wanted to shoot pool with…”

“Yes. I saw,” I said.

“Well, we were talking in the bathroom and she said her husband told her that of all the women in the bar, I’m the only one he’d fuck.”

Where do these people come from? I was momentarily stunned.

There may have been occasions when people didn’t take us for a couple because of our age difference, but there would have been no mistaking it, that night. We were playing grab ass around the pool table, frequently kissing and embracing. That Tina was my date was unmistakable. Yet, this swinging couple decided to try to pick her up anyhow. Perhaps that was why the bearded man made such a hasty exit from the bar when I was about to approach them all. Evidently, I wasn’t invited to make it a “foursome.”

Tina had a talent for attracting people like this. I never knew if the couple had randomly approached her or if she’d initiated something herself. The later seemed likely since she’d expressed such interest in meeting them for reasons I couldn’t see. I knew she’d at least fantasized about a scenario like that.

Tina said she’d told them she was there with her fiance and that was evidently the end of it.

Taken alone, the incident was a curious anecdote, but there was a pattern. In retrospect, the whole encounter had the hallmarks of triangulation. Narcissists are known for their triangulating manipulation tactics. Tina wanted me to be aware that other people desired her sexually. Tina’s whole story might have been a fabrication. It’s impossible to know. Lies were just a part of Tina’s everyday existence. I knew she’d concocted some elaborate stories in other instances. The lies and intrigue never stopped with her.
